Antibiotics For Skin

Antibiotics For Skin

Antibiotics for skin with acne work on several levels. They can help by decreasing the number of bacteria around and inside the follicle. Also, they reduce the chemicals produced by white blood cells. Finally, they help to get rid of excess fatty acids in the oils produced by your skin, which also reduces inflammation.

Some antibiotics for skin that are frequently prescribed include Tetracycline which is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for acne.

Erythromycin is also highly prescribed and has anti-inflammatory properties and can be taken on an full stomach unlike tetracycline above.

Doxycycline is the alternative to erythomycin and tetracycline if they appear not to work or cannot be tolerated by the individual. This medication can, however, cause more sensitivity to the sun.

Clindamycin is usually prescribed as a cream (rather then orally as in the case of the above antibiotics).

Unfortunately, all antibiotics can cause yeast infections and reduce the effective of birth control pills in women.
